The FINAL : Worms finally make it three

The 2023 Bundesliga Champions were crowned today in Krefeld, with one team looking to end a long title drought and the other aiming for the title in their first ever final.

In the event it was Worms, the Southern Division winners who took the title with a 4-0 win over Diepholz, claiming their third title, ten years after their second **.

Bundesliga Finals 2023 : Day THREE, FINAL

WORMS 4-0 DIEPHOLZ

#4 :  Jens Schoor 3-2 Willi Winglesdorf    10-12, 11-13, 11-2, 11-3, 11-9 (70m)
#1 :  Paul Coll 3-1 Mazen Hesham   11-4, 7-11, 11-4, 11-2 (55m)
#2 :  Valentin Rapp 3-2 Rory Stewart   7-11, 11-4, 11-5, 6-11, 11-9 (66m)
#3 :  Elliott Morris 2-0 Felix Auer   11-5, 11-6 (12m)

Valentin clinches the title for Worms

#2 :  Valentin Rapp 3-2 Rory Stewart   7-11, 11-4, 11-5, 6-11, 11-9 (66m)

The third match was another see-saw affair, with Rory Stewart taking the lead to give Diepholz some hope, but Valentin Rapp struck back to take the lead and put Worms one game away.

Rory levelled, but in another tense decider which went point for point, it was Valentin who held his nerve at the end, taking the match on a stroke to the delight of the Worms family.

Coll quells Hesham to double Worms lead

#1 :  Paul Coll 3-1 Mazen Hesham   11-4, 7-11, 11-4, 11-2 (55m)

Paul Coll doubled Worms’ lead as he wore down Mazen Hesham over the course of four games, Coll’s rock like steadiness in the end proving too much for the Egyptian, who faded after taking the second and the end came quickly in the fourth.

Jens comeback puts Worms ahead

#4 :  Jens Schoor 3-2 Willi Winglesdorf    10-12, 11-13, 11-2, 11-3, 11-9 (70m)

What a comeback from Jens Schoor to put Worms ahead ! Willi edged the first two games but Jens stormed back to level the match, and managed to stay ahead – just – in a tense decider which had both teams fuming at some decisions.  Jens may be a little slower than in his heyday but his  celebrations have lost nothing (plenty more photos in the gallery!)

** Paderborn and Worms were jointly awarded the title in 2020 when the season was curtailed due to Coved.
